The sole problem with a VPN is that since it uses encryptions, it reduces connection speeds. Again, this is where the widespread use of Linksys AC1200 comes in handy. The DD-WRT firmware upgrade enables this router to support VPN connections. If you wish to create a bigger network, the router has a 100v-240v ~50-60Hz power adapter that is compatible around the globe. The Linksys AC1200 has three antennas, which is rather average.

The latter is probably more useful in a business environment rather than recreational use – the other two are perfectly fit for that purpose. There are some rarely seen options to do work with this device apart from the slowly common USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, you also have an eSATA port to take advantage of. We took a look at how the Linksys AC120 performs in unison with a VPN service for these various uses. Because of its ability to serve a smaller network (2-12 people), the Linksys AC1200 is at its element the most when utilized in bigger households, offices or for video streaming. Otherwise I would look at getting a new router. This particular router – the Linksys AC1200 – is best understood a general-purpose machine. If it's under warranty still, Cisco might replace it. Sounds like the router is dying, or has an issue.

I should've known to avoid this router just by looking at how goofy it looks lol. So far, I've reset everything, I've swapped cables, and I upgraded the firmware on the router to the newest version from the Cisco website.Īny ideas on how I might be able to fix this? I called my ISP and they will probably send someone out tomorrow, but since I think it may be my personal router, I don't want them to come out for nothing and charge me money.Įdit: Also, I swapped out the router for the old Belkin router that I had replaced and my speeds went up to 7-8Mbps. I disconnected my router and hooked a laptop straight to the modem, ran a speed test and came out at just under 8Mbps. Running a few speed tests, I've been getting anywhere between 200Kbps and 2Mbps down, while my upload speed stayed around 2-3Mbps. Normally my connection is around 7-8Mbps, but today it's started to drop dramatically. I've been having an internet issue today, and I'm assuming my router is causing it.
